on January 19, 2014Sorry about the theft of your camera. Love the shot of the owl--you were close. My parents have a screech owl in their yard, but he has never posed this well.

on January 19, 2014Sorry Adrian, hard to focus on the owl when there appears to be a stolen camera and laptop - geesh! Sorry to hear. I do like the owl shot - can't imagine being close enough to one.

on January 19, 2014Your welcome Adrian! You should be able to do this on the .jpg as well. As for the eye the shadow/highlight adjustment might not do the trick using a curve on each of the eyes should do the trick!
Did you loose your computer as well as your camera?

on January 19, 2014Thanks Michelle - very pertinent comments as I was thinking of perhaps making a print from this. I will have to wait until I get a replacement computer before I can Lightroom/PhotoShop again - and even then I will have to search around to see if I still have the RAW file ;-( I'm hoping I'll get a chance to try those adjustments to bring out more texture & more eyes!

on January 19, 2014I love the composition! Thinking out of the box, you do have shadows within the feather.
As part of my fine art printing course last summer, I discovered the shadow/highlight adjustment in Photoshop. This adjustment really helps you have more control on your shadows and highlights. Here is a link on this adjustment:

In addition, the eyes of your owl are draw me in but I believe if they were a little brighter they would draw me in even more.
As well sorry to hear about your camera.

on January 18, 2014I guess I could try to stretch things and find some way to make this relevent to this weeks challenge. But the truth is this is the last photo I took with my camera before it was stolen from the back of my car. Came across this guy while skiing with my camera looking for shadows in the forest - never did find a nice shadow photo, but was quite happy with this one, of the shadowy owl ;)
